The Singapore Association of the Deaf (SADeaf) wishes to thank your team from the International Association of Facilitators (IAF) - Mr Loh Tuck Kwang, Mr Chan Earn Meng and Ms Lorraine Kwek - for organising and facilitating our board retreat on 29 January 2022 on a pro bono basis. Our appreciation goes, too, to the Centre for Non- Profit Leadership (CNPL) for connecting us with IAF.

The retreat provided much insights and clarity to us as we sought to chart our way into the future as a team. These included a better understanding of our organisations priorities, common goals in the short and long terms, and the actions needed to achieve these targets.

The facilitators were very dynamic and provided much guidance and structure in our brainstorming, despite it being an online session. Much energy and excitement from the participants reflected the meaningful and fruitful outcome of the day's discussion. The AF team had also worked very hard to organise a very successful retreat for SADeaf. They made the effort to attend a Deaf Awareness programme and conducted a dry run for our access team (of interpreters and notetaker) to better understand the communication needs of our Deaf participants.

  I learned from Jenson that you and your team have worked tirelessly in designing the workshop to tailor-fit it to our needs. During the session, you and your team used effective tools and techniques to create a safe space for us to share our views and opinions candidly and honestly. You were sensitive to our evolving needs as we worked enthusiastically on our future directions and values, and adjusted your initial design and approach to accommodate them. 

My board members left the workshop on a high note, a sense of excitement and positivity, and with a clear direction on what needs done, thanks largely to the design of the workshop and how you and your team went about implementing it. We are very grateful for the time and effort that you and your team have invested to help us chart our way forward.

“As a visual facilitator with a background in user experience (UX) and spatial design, IAF’s collaboration with TEDxSingapore gave me the creative space to work with our network of facilitators to design a space to spark creative conversations with the community. It was an eye opening experience for myself and the facilitators involved”

The IAF-TEDx ground-up conversation is a great platform for any facilitator who wants to apply large-group participatory process/dialogue from start to finish – from engaging with the client, designing and exploring with different methods, collaborating with fellow facilitators to deliver a meaningful and joyful experience. Most gratifying for me is the learning, discovery and the seeds of potential transformation that we can plant as facilitator when we step up for the sake of participation.

“Reflecting on the conversations we had, I am reminded of my passion for the arts and how I feel when I engage in the different art forms.
